Production

During lockdown in Syria, director Salma Azzam had been working on a new script idea. Around the same time, Eva Petersson reached out to her to appear on The BUZZ with Eva, her OSN talk show, as part of a feature on women in film in the Middle East. The two hit it off, and Salma subsequently asked Eva to audition for the role of Lucy.

From the very first rehearsals, Eva understood Salma’s vision for the character. She brought a raw emotionality to Lucy’s portrayal. Despite challenging Covid restrictions and production delays, the movie was shot and produced between March and May of 2021. Dubai locations included Riverland at Dubai Parks and Resorts and Bellaroma Hospital.
